Oops

I saw Star Wars: Return of the Sith (hurray for free tickets on opening day...). I liked it. It prompted me to continue playing KOTOR2, and to go get the original star wars movies on DVD. I figured it's time for me to own the actual movies, even though the only way to get them in true  and unaltered form with near-dvd functionality is through bootlegs.

There is one problem. I bought it in Full Screen format. I didn't realize the silver cover was the wide screen and the gold cover was the full screen. I just saw it and said "ooo" and bought it.

I don't understand what the point of buying a DVD in full screen format is. Especially star wars--: why would you EVER want to see those movies in full screen format? What is the point? It's horrible. Wide screen captures the full 'view', it's more natural and more epic. The shots make sense. They even switch to widescreen at the very end in Episode IV, and if you're not paying attention, all you notice is an elevated level of uberness. And then you cry inside, as you realize why.

Anyways, I hope futureshop takes it back and lets me exchange with the widescreen version. I hope they have widescreen in stock. There are 3 futureshops in town, one of them must have it. They must.

wtf

I think part of what makes lighttpd so "light" is that it doesn't have any useful error messages, other than "omfg fail wtf wtf, connect not worky omg die crash !!!!". Then you have to use kill -9 on it.

I hate computers.

Okay, so I forgot to emerge ruby-fcgi. Duh!

ruby!

  • Mood: Happy
  • Music: Sigh - Bring back the dead
Today was so productive! And it's warm outside.

I just took a look at ruby on rails, and I want to try it out. If it manages to hold my interest for a weekend or two, and is as easy as everyone says, this "blog" may become obsolete soon...

Also thinking of scraping together enough spare parts to build another computer, again. Just a cheap no-monitor computer that would serve files or something. I'd need another hard drive, more net cable, perhaps a power source... and definitely a real power bar, one of those fancy APC ones.

Also I could use a 2-seater couch... and I could move my borrowed TV into the techy room...

Having a productive day makes me go crazy, I think.

How interesting...

Is it me, or do all Bioware games since NWN have lesbian love interests for female player characters?

Not that I'm complaining. I just think it's funny.

gaming update.

  • Mood:
  • Music: Dream Evil - The Chosen Ones
I picked up Jade Empire yesterday. I got the limited edition too so I have the extra character content. So far I'm loving the game. Will update again when I actually finish it. Someone decided they wanted social attention tonight so I don't get to play it until I pass out.

Eve is in a lull, though I still like it. I was making money by doing trades in my industrial (and fearing the passing through amamake, because player pirates lurk there), but I have no standings with anyone. So, I'm leveling up skills that will make improve agent quality and focusing on agent missions until I get at least one level II guy.

I'm not renewing WoW this month, though I did discover that the only way I'm able to get any enjoyment (still subpar) out of that game is by playing the first 10 levels of a night elf on an RP server. I hate the way PvP is done in that game, it's horrid. And I hate people. RP is nice, because people are marginally less stupid. I also hate XP based systems, where the point is to grind. I put up with it in most console based rpgs because it's sort of tacked onto the side and is generally VERY well balanced. You never grind. Those are all single player, though.

One game I think should have had multiplayer was morrowind. It wouldn't have to be massive multiplayer, just support for like 4-8 players. I don't see why they couldn't have done that. There could have been a server that kept your little world running, and players with accounts on that server that can log in and adventure together. I would have loved that. It would be just like how we used to play NWN.

I over-dosed on coffee yesterday, and tylenol helped me get through last night and this morning. Oops. I justify the use of painkillers (a luxury) because it directly counters the caffiene (another luxury!).

Now I'm going to go do my taxes. Wooo.

I think it's funny that so many people were quick to believe the FOX special on the possibility of a moon landing hoax, and even more funny that some of those same people refer to FOX as a source of misinformation now...

strange adventures

  • Mood:
  • Music: Amon Amarth - Beheading of a King
I now seem to have a schizophrenic neighbor downstairs who likes to scream at the people in her head late at night. While it is mildly exciting, I'm not sure I'm okay with this development.

At about 1:00am last night I woke up, full of adrenaline, because I heard someone shouting and swearing at the top of their lungs. At first I thought it was a really bad domestic dispute, and still did when I went to sleep an hour or so later. When I think about it, her voice was the only one I ever heard.

My apartment building has relatively thin walls, so it was like she was shouting and swearing right next to me, though it's really hard to determine the direction. I heard someone banging on a door and screaming some more, begging for someone to "come back". She was opening the window and screaming, and begging "Megan" and "Dave" and "Lori" to return, as if they had recently defenestrated themselves. At some point there was a, "God help me, god help ME", which was a bit unnerving.

Very surreal.

Fable is too short.

  • Mood:
  • Music: Bloodhound Gang - Right Turn Clyde
I just finished Fable on Xbox. I only mastered two skills, being the time slowdown thing and multi-strike, which I used extensively to defeat Jack of Blades (yay). I played a 100% good character. I want to try again but as an evil "hero". I'm not yet sure if I'd want to play as a sneaky character who steals things or if I want to play as an evil character who kills people.

The game is absolutely amazing. The only flaw I can find is that it's way too short. That, and the sneaking controls suck - you have to hold down the left analog stick as well as use it to move... it makes your thumb tired. Other than that, though, the game is so full of detail, it's beautiful. I am not sure I'll be able to go far as an evil character. I never finished Knights of the Old Republic being a dark side character. I have trouble being an asshole in a game. I got Sith Lords as well but haven't played past the first little bit.

So I finished that and then tried playing the new prince of persia... it's a very action-oriented game, so far. I also can't get past the very first part as I haven't really got a hang on the controls. Also, I only played it for 15 minutes before wishing I could continue playing Fable with my character after defeating Jack of Blades...

Also, Vampire: Bloodlines for PC is good. I just want a new video card now.

I ALSO got World of Warcraft, but the CDs were busted and I couldn't even install it. The best part is, I returned it but it's still sold out in my area. Damn. Oh well, more time to finish the other games!
